This is lengthy, so bare with me.
I probably bug a lot of people with my fascination with Zack de la Rocha, but I can’t help it. This man is honestly one of the best lyricists and rappers that’s ever graced this earth. Every song he writes makes you truly think about what’s going on around you, his lyrics open your eyes, most of the time in a brutal and powerful manner. I’ll never forget after I discovered Rage Against the Machine and went out and bought Evil Empire. I was sitting in the car while reading the lyrics in the CD for the first time. Some particular lines literally made my mouth drop and just hang there for a few minutes. I’d never heard anything close to those lyrics. And from that day on I decided I would pay close attention to what this man had to say. I’ve always felt like Zack is on my side. He & Rage never forget the sistas :) He taught me to never be silent. He has encouraged me to stand up for myself and the oppressed. He helped me believe in myself and that I can indeed change the world. I can’t think of anything better to learn from a musician.   After reading up on Zack’s life, I understand that deep place from which that rage comes from. He used music to escape and as an outlet to express his anger. He didn’t ask to become famous for doing what he does, but he used that as a platform to inform and inspire many brothers and sisters. He took advantage of his voice and gave volume to struggles of the voiceless through his music. He is a very caring, passionate soul.

So many people think of him as a young, angry dreadlock-sporting guy, I’ll always think of his kind, humble spirit. ♥ Happy birthday Zack….and thank you with all my heart.
